Thankfully I’ve found a couple of good prospects. A 4 cyl Mercury Cougar (IIRC has the duratec engine), a similar Focus. And a Suzuki Reno with 100k. All manual transmissions, so no having to worry about autos shitting out.

I checked out a Camery today, but I didn’t have the money on me and since it was Sunday, couldn’t pull any out of the bank. Someone came by after me and bought it. :(

Nothing you said was wrong. I just know if you find a good one, often it won’t be there the next day. Now I’m suddenly thinking about all the times I’ve walked around with absurd amounts of cash for a car.

If it was cold enough to wear a jacket you could put in an inside pocket and it wouldn’t be too much of an issue. But if not, I’m not holding a envelope with cash in my hands or leaving it in the back pocket of my jeans or something.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall when the VW/Audi nerd shows up at his house and tries to tell him how this is the spiritual successor to the Beetle and talks about air cooled vs. water cooled non-sense or how they’re going to turn this into a Cup Car replica for their local cars and coffee.

I am indeed. I got exactly $1400 of car for my money. This morning I couldn’t get into gear on an exit ramp (forced it into 3rd) and had to burn my clutch all the way to a nearby garage for some penetrating oil.
